Emergency care tips

Handling Dental Emergencies

Dental emergencies can happen suddenly — whether it’s a chipped tooth, lost filling, or intense pain. Knowing how to react can make a big difference before you reach your dentist.

If you break or chip a tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water and try to save any pieces. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and see your dentist as soon as possible.

For a knocked-out tooth, handle it by the crown (not the root), gently rinse, and try to place it back in the socket. If that's not possible, keep it in milk and get emergency dental care immediately.

Severe toothaches may be caused by infections or abscesses. Rinse your mouth, floss gently to remove any trapped food, and avoid putting aspirin directly on the gum.

In all cases, prompt attention from a dental professional is key. Never ignore swelling, bleeding, or lingering pain — these could be signs of serious issues requiring urgent care.
